Fashion Industry News, Designers, Runway Shows, Style Advice

For a split second I almost thought I was at New York Fashion Week. Backstage, top models like Georgie Badiel, Alek Wek and Oluchi Onweagba were getting beautified, while at front of house an army of street style photographers stalked the front row for candids of celebs and it-girls. Outside, copies of an all-African daily (suspiciously similar to T ..read more..

The Best Shoes From the Spring 2012 Shows – Fashionista: Fashion Industry News, Designers, Runway Shows, Style Advice

While everyone else had their eyes firmly glued to the clothing trends of the spring 2012 season, I was fixated on the feet. Shoe trends for spring come in two varieties, crazy and over-the-top or minimal and functional. The most obvious extremes are Versace’s see-through mega heels (6 inches or more!) versus Comme des Garçons’ white, almost st ..read more..

Elie Saab RTW Fall 2012

Futuristic films tinged with melancholy — particularly “Metropolis” and “Blade Runner” — have proved a gold mine of inspiration for designers this European season, and Elie Saab let their dark, urban spirit seep into his rich-lady clothes. Vangelis’ “Love Theme” from the latter film swelled on the soundtrack, and out strode a robotic army of models with blunt bangs and icy stares.

LOVE the leather pencil skirt with the soft flounce of the blouse… amazing heels as well!

Costume National RTW Fall 2012

Designer Ennio Capasa quite literally took a dark turn for fall with an almost-all-black Costume National lineup that played out against a black runway. Not surprisingly, the collection was heavy on leather, but not of the biker chic variety.

Andrew Gn RTW Fall 2012

The brooding and slightly naughty mood that coursed through Andrew Gn’s collection was somewhat unexpected for a designer who is known for his jolly disposition and caters to a crowd of fancy, well-heeled women. Backstage before the show, Gn said he had been looking at the Victorian photographs of Lewis Carroll, from which he drew a moody, Gothic sensibility that imbued the clothes with a dark opulence. It worked quite well for daywear, if that’s what you call mink-embellished coats and crepe dresses with fur epaulets. The wispy georgette blouses were beautiful, some with basket weave details around the shoulders, or lace and feather appliqués.

Gorgeous vintage-inspired gown with a Goth-glam feel
